Google Ranking ExperimentThe experiment is to produce two pages with almost the same content. One is in the form of a list style whilst the other is in paragraph form. The Google Toolbar which can be incorporated into Microsoft's Internet Explorer contains a little bar graph showing the viewed page's ranking with the Google search engine. The experiment is to see which page obtains the highest page rank, thus I hope determining which is the best method of writing web pages, key point or paragraph fashion. Personally I prefer to read bulleted key points rather than read paragraph after paragraph to get at the information I am seeking. Score Higher in Google Search Engine (and why Google is saving the web.) explains more on the subject of Google page ranking. Since I am determined to one day earn a living from my websites I need to fully understand how to achieve the highest ranking possible, therefore the aim of this experiment to see how the algorithms that Google use will rank the two test pages. Today is the 21 June 2005, Nuweiba Information is a page already on the site and Nuweiba Test as been added. I anticipate that Google will be sending Google bots out within a month and a further month to alter the rankings of the pages. September 2005 should therefore see the rankings for both pages on the Google Toolbar. Depending upon the outcome of the experiment I will also add a further page that contains both paragraph and bulleted list information to see if the ranking is higher or lower. For a footnote there is a game you can play called Google whack in which the aim is to find on Google only one site listed for a pair of words. Try Titmarsh gardeningdatabase and see if this website shows along with www.gardeningdatabase.co.uk. Opps that means that I have not achieved a hit playing Google whack. Google Search for Google whack showed top of the listing on 21 June 2005 http://www.googlewhack.com/. which outlines the rules and checks and records valid whacks you have achieved. (Notice that the combination I used is not a real pair since one is not a real word.) |
