DCC Simple

Using the Bachmann E-Z Command Digital Controller (36-500) for model railway control

Note pictures to follow

The DCC controller from Bachmann is easy to use albeit with little programming capabilities. Connect the red leads to the track, remembering to place one at either side as can be seen in the picture. Connect the jack into the outlet from the controller. Now connect the transformer into the controller. Plug the transformer into a 13Amp wall socket and turn on. The red LED near to the red stop button will now light. If this is flashing rapidly then there is a short circuit on the layout. If flashing slow this same LED indicates that the stop button as been pressed.

With the stop button pressed and the red LED flashing slow add a DCC locomotive to the track. Press the Stop followed by pressing the button associated with the locomotive. The LED associated with the button should illuminate. Above the speed dial are two direction buttons, press the direction the locomotive is to run. Now the speed dial can be turned clockwise to increase the speed. Depending upon the internal setting of the locomotive the engine should slowly accelerate to the speed set by the dial. Turning anti-clockwise (CCW) will cause the locomotive to decelerate slowly to the speed setting of the dial. Assuming an inner track is installed and the two are connected together then a second DCC engine can be added and controlled by selecting the button associated with this new addition. Both engines can thus be controlled separately but from the same controller. The Yellow button will turn on and off lights etc on the locomotive.

Changing over the address of a locomotive is easy.

bulletPress the present address button of the locomotive to be changed
bulletActivate the loco by running a short distance
bulletWith the address button pressed, press the stop button, when both buttons are released the Power LED should be flashing quickly
bulletPress the address button you wish to assign the loco to, the loco moves slowly and power LED flashes slowly
bulletThat is how easy it is

Normal locomotives (non DCC) can be controlled by pressing button 10, but remember only one though and although the direction can be set, the locomotive might need to go in reverse when set in forward. Reverse the track connections to the controller to bring match loco direction with that on the controller.
