Facts in support of Railway Concept

In order to prove the railway concepts are feasible it was necessary to gain facts and figures. These along with the resources used are given below. 

Vestas wind turbine, V90 can generate 3 MW with an average wind speed of 9m/s or about 20 miles per hour ( Source Vestas website (last accessed 11 September 2005)).

Class 91 Locomotive used to haul the GNER Intercity 225 can have a maximum rail power of 4,700 kW according to http://www.lexcie.zetnet.co.uk/class91.htm (last accessed 11 September 2005).

http://www.therailwaycentre.com/ gives some figures for class 90 which is used to haul freight and gives the maximum traction output of 5,860kW/ (last accessed 11 September 2005).

http://www.ecolane.co.uk/Chapter%201.pdf gives fuel figures for HGVs of between 7.9 and 8.5 mpg.(last accessed 11 September 2005).

http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/inf10.htm gives some information on renewable energy and electricity. Wonder why though, there is no mention of linking hydrogen with storage capacity? (last accessed 11 September 2005).
